Serenova / Terraquea. Homage to an Agave Inflorescence (2017)

How can a barely perceptible mark become a temporary inhabitant of a place already crossed by human, animal and vegetal traces?

The dirt road connecting the rural surroundings of Petrolio Residency in Serranova to the sea became the guiding line of this research. Along this route, abandoned farmhouses appeared as thresholds between land and sea, human history and non-human occupation.

The project developed as an impossible search for a mutable and elusive genius loci. Those who had arrived from the sea and temporarily inhabited the former farmhouses also left traces behind. Writings in Albanian on the walls testify to these presences in transit: “2.10.1993, Serenova [Serranova].”

Today, these buildings, withdrawn from human use, have been colonised by multiple forms of animal and vegetal life. My drawings, barely perceptible presences made with materials found on site, became the latest temporary “guests” of these neglected yet generative places.

In che modo un segno appena percettibile può diventare un abitante temporaneo di un luogo già attraversato da tracce umane, animali e vegetali?

La strada sterrata che collega l’intorno rurale di Residenza Petrolio, a Serranova, al mare è diventata la linea guida di questa ricerca. Lungo questo asse, le coloniche abbandonate si presentavano come soglie tra terra e mare, storia umana e occupazione non umana.

Il progetto si è sviluppato come una ricerca impossibile di un genius loci mutevole e sfuggente. Anche coloro che erano arrivati dal mare e avevano abitato temporaneamente le ex coloniche hanno lasciato tracce. Alcune scritte in albanese sui muri testimoniano queste presenze in transito: “2.10.1993, Serenova [Serranova].”

Oggi questi edifici, sottratti all’uso umano, sono stati colonizzati da molteplici forme di vita animale e vegetale. I miei disegni, presenze appena percettibili realizzate con materiali trovati sul posto, sono diventati gli ultimi “ospiti” temporanei di questi luoghi trascurati e allo stesso tempo generativi.
